EU PesticideWatch ... the countdown to a healthier environment

71% of European citizens are concerned about the presence of pesticides in food produce. Over 5% of European food products tested contain 5 or more different pesticides residues.

In July 2006 the European Commission published tough new proposals on pesticides legislation. These included ending exposure to carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic and endocrine disrupting pesticides – chemicals which are dominant food contaminants in every European country.

In October 2007 many of the Commission’s proposals won the approval of the European Parliament, and are now ready to become law.

However despite widespread political support the move to end exposure Actionto carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic and endocrine disrupting pesticides is under threat from national governments, many of whom are likely to block the proposed legal changes.
